6/30/22 – This is an original K98 bayonet with a matching scabbard and a period-correct leather frog. The bayonet blade has excellent bluing and no signs of sharpening. There’s some finish loss near the tip of the blade. The ricasso is serial numbered “54 d” and the reverse is maker stamped “MUNDLOS”. The spine of the blade is “40” dated. The hand guard and pommel are missing most of the original finish, and have surface patina throughout. The scabbard similarly has patina throughout and almost no bluing left on the metal. The scabbard is matching serial numbered near the mouth. The leather frog is in good condition with some wrinkling and wear on the closure strap. There’s a faint (illegible) maker stamp on the back leather of the frog.
