5/20/22 – This is a very interesting Erfurt Luger. It was originally issued to the Imperial German military in 1918. It has the proper Imperial proofs throughout. As evidenced by the 1918/1920 double date, this is a government property marking and indicates that this gun remained in government service after WW1. It also has a Deathshead marking on the chamber. The Deathshead marking is thought to be a unit mark that tank crews and / or the Freikorps Units were known to use. Also, in the K98 world, the Nazi rework stamp and similar Deathshead marking is attributed to early SS units. There is no real consensus on the meaning of this markings, so we will just present this as a Rare Deathshead marked luger of unknown origin. There is also what appears to be an additional unit marking on the tang marked “15.2.”. The toggle assembly is mismatched to the rest of the gun. The gun has retained roughly 85% of its original bluing. There are areas of wear around the muzzle, along the barrel, on the side plate, on the side rails, on the back strap, and at the base of the front strap. Some light scratchy wear on the front strap. Comes with mismatched but period-correct wood grips. Also comes with a mismatched WW2-era magazine (small dings on the bottom). Minty bore.
