4/5/22 – This is a GRI Ishapore No 1 Mk III rifle, chambered in .303 British. “GRI” stands for “Georgius Rex Imperator” or “George, King and Emperor” and it was how King George VI, of England, was known to his subjects in India until their independence in 1948 after WWII. This particular gun is an Enfield No 1 Mk III made in the Ishapore factory in India for issue to the British military in 1945. The gun is mismatched, and there is an import mark on the right side of the receiver. Overall, the gun is in fair condition. Most of the black painted finish has chipped away – there are some small spots still visible here and there. There is light brown patina covering most of the metal parts. There are bruises and scuffs on the stock throughout. The color of the upper handguard doesn’t match the rest of the gun. There is a hairline crack on the right side next to the action. Minty bore.
