1/19/22 – This is a nice example of a Mauser Gewehr 98 rifle issued to the Imperial German military in 1917. The gun is mostly mismatched but has no import marks. It comes with a cleaning rod and really nice tan leather sling. Imperial German military proofs throughout. The receiver has a really neat “1918” serial number. The stock is also Imperial-proofed and numbered but does not match the gun. Overall, the gun is in nice condition. There is finish loss throughout, most noticeable on the receiver, barrel bands, floor plate, trigger guard, and butt plate. There are small dots of oxidation covering almost all of the surfaces on the gun. There is a light scuff on the floor plate. The stock is very nice and appears to have been lightly sanded. The bore has good rifling with some areas of pin-pricking here and there.
