11/20/19 – This is an original WWII production Japanese Officer’s Katana, with the original sheath. The sheath still has bout 98% of the original olive paint, with some light brown speckling wear throughout. The blade is beautiful and in excellent condition with a few small spots of darkening / oxidation. No signs of sharpening or misuse. The handle is hand-wrapped, but there’s a small gap between the metal fixture and sharkskin portion of the handle (see photos). This may be the biggest problem area on the entire piece, as the wood peg is also broken inside the handle. This sword is overall an excellent example, and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Ruptured Duck. Valued at $1400.
