11/21/18 – The M1D Garand Sniper was designed so that troops in Korea could essentially turn the Garand into a sniper rifle with a field kit, rather than needing to drill mount the scope like the M1C. This particular gun was made in early 1945, then arsenal upgraded to the M1D in January of 1951(barrel date). The rifle is likely a put-together in the M1D styel and in excellent condition. The serial number is in the proper range but the gun was likely put together some time after the Korean War. It has clear Springfield cartouche and crossed cannons marks on the stock. The scope has clear optics and is marked “Telescope M84” with serial 6474. Nice, original sling and cheek pad, with the pad marked ‘MRT 8 51’, which is presumably the production date. Rifle has a period original five-prong flash hider. Bore is shiny with strong rifling but does have minor frost throughout. Stock is in great shape with signs of basic handling wear and one small chip along the top, but no cracks.
